Beyond capturing family memories, photography offers a chance to be creative. Many photographers use photography to express their creativity, using lighting, composition, depth, color, and content to make their photographs into more than snapshots. Good photographs tell us about a person, a news event, a product, a place, a scientific breakthrough, an endangered animal, or a time in history.
Scouts of any rank and any age may participate.
Participants will need access to a camera. (Yes, a phone camera is fine.)
This merit badge is taught in two 90-minute sessions; independent fieldwork will be required.
Prerequisites and homework must be completed to earn this merit badge.
Classes are typically held at the Half Hollow Hills Community Library, 55 Vanderbilt Pkwy, Dix Hills, NY 11746.
Scouts must request permission to participate from their Scoutmaster and obtain a signed blue card.
Access to cameras and photography is something we all take for granted. In this merit badge, you will gain a deeper understanding of the principles of photography and most importantly how to tell a story with an image. The skills you gain from practicing photography in this merit badge class will affect how to take photos and appreciate them for the rest of your life.
